Welcome to Sega Mods & ODEs. This subforum covers modding and repairing Sega hardware: optical drive emulators, flashcarts, screen upgrades, video mods, recaps and bringing tired consoles back to life. What belongs here • Optical drive emulators such as GDEMU for the Dreamcast, Saroo for the Saturn and MODE for both • Flashcarts for the Master System, Mega Drive and Game Gear • Game Gear screen replacements, recaps and audio fixes • Region and refresh rate switches, RGB and video output mods • Optical drive repairs, power supplies and general board repairs What doesn't • General chat, news and collections: General discussion • Shell yellowing and deep cleaning: Restoration & retrobrite • Displays, SCART and upscalers: CRT gaming How to ask so people can help 1. The console, model and region, and the board revision if you know it 2. The mod or ODE and its firmware version 3. Exactly what you did and what you see now 4. Clear photos of the board and your soldering, before and after 5. Your storage, such as the SD card size and format, for ODE problems Worth knowing • Clones of popular ODEs exist. Quality and support vary, and some are copies of other people's hard work. Buy from the original makers where you can. • SD cards are a common cause of ODE problems. Try a different, good-quality card and check the format the ODE expects before assuming the hardware is faulty. • Game Gear capacitors are known to fail. Recapping usually fixes sound and display faults, but the board is fragile, so take your time and use the right iron and tip. • Use the correct power supply for your console and region. Mixing up voltages or polarity can do real damage. Safety Unplug before opening anything. Saturn and Dreamcast power supplies carry mains voltage, so never touch them while plugged in and leave them alone unless you know what you are doing. Ventilate when soldering and wash your hands afterwards. The rules Mods yes, piracy no. Do not link, share or request ROMs, disc images, BIOS files or firmware, and do not ask where to find them. Use backups of your own discs and dump your own BIOS. No malware, no selling consoles or parts and no paid modding services. The house rules apply here too: be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules.
