Welcome to Emulation on Steam Deck. The Deck is a fantastic emulation machine, and this is where we help each other set it up: EmuDeck, RetroDECK, ES-DE, standalone emulators, controls and performance. What belongs here • Setup walkthroughs for EmuDeck or RetroDECK • ES-DE themes, scraping and organising your collection • Settings for RetroArch and standalone emulators for PS1, PS2, GameCube, Wii, PSP, DS, 3DS and more • Steam Input controller profiles and hotkeys • Adding emulated games to your Steam library • Performance, shaders, aspect ratios and battery tips • Emulation on other SteamOS devices What doesn't • Broken installs, crashes and errors you can't fix go in Help & troubleshooting • Hardware upgrades go in Mods & upgrades • General chat goes in General discussion Useful basics • Most tools are set up from Desktop Mode, then played from Game Mode. • EmuDeck installs emulators and configures them for you; RetroDECK bundles everything into one self-contained app. Both are good, so pick one and stick with it rather than mixing. • Many emulators need BIOS or firmware files. Dump them from consoles you own; we'll explain how, but we won't share them. • Keep games, BIOS files and saves in the folders your tool expects, ideally on a reputable SD card or internal storage, and back up your saves. • Steam Input is powerful. Back and trackpad buttons make great hotkeys. • Higher internal resolution looks nicer but costs battery. Start at native and adjust per game. • Emulator versions change often. Mention your versions in every post. How to post a guide or question 1. Put the system and tool in the title, for example RetroDECK: PS2 widescreen settings. 2. Say which Deck you have and your SteamOS version. 3. List the tool and emulator versions. 4. Describe the steps, or what you've tried, in order. Legal and safety No ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files, firmware dumps, keys or cracked games, and no hints about where to find them. No pre-loaded drives or full sets. Guides must assume people use their own dumps. No malware, and no selling or paid services. House rules Be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules.
