Welcome to PC building & upgrades. This forum is for choosing parts, planning builds, upgrading the PC you already have and sorting out hardware problems. Gaming rigs, small form factor builds, budget office machines, used-parts bargains, laptop upgrades and rescuing old towers are all welcome here. What belongs here • Build planning and part lists for feedback. • Upgrade advice: what will make the biggest difference to your current machine. • Hardware troubleshooting: no POST, no display, crashes under load, overheating. • Cooling, cable management, cases and peripherals. • Build logs and finished build photos. What goes elsewhere • Operating system problems: Windows, Linux or macOS & old Macs. • Servers and NAS builds: Homelab & self-hosting is often the better fit. • Period-correct retro Windows PCs: Windows XP, 7 & older. Asking for build advice Tell us: • Your budget range and country (prices and availability vary a lot by region). • What you will use it for, such as games, resolution, editing or work. • Any parts you already have and want to reuse. • Size, noise or appearance preferences. Prices change constantly, so please do not treat a price quoted in an old thread as current. Starter knowledge • Check compatibility: CPU socket and motherboard chipset, RAM type, case size for your motherboard, GPU length and cooler height. • A motherboard may need a BIOS update to support a newer CPU, so check the manufacturer's support list. • Do not skimp on the power supply. A good-quality unit from a reputable brand with sensible headroom protects everything else. Avoid unknown cheap units. • Static can damage components. Work on a hard surface, touch the case metal to discharge yourself, or use an anti-static wrist strap. • Plug your monitor into the graphics card, not the motherboard, when you have a dedicated GPU. • After building, enable your RAM's rated profile (XMP or EXPO) in the BIOS if you want it to run at its advertised speed, and check temperatures under load. • Back up your data before changing drives or reinstalling. Safety Never open a power supply. The capacitors inside can hold a dangerous charge even when unplugged. Treat swollen laptop batteries with care and recycle them properly. Rules • No selling, trading or buying parts here, and no affiliate links. • No pirated software or activation cracks for the operating system. • If you post a part list, keep it to the parts and your budget, not shop links that track referrals. When you ask for hardware help List every part, what happens when you power on, any beep codes or debug LEDs, and what you have already tested. House rules The general KZE rules apply: be kind, English only (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report on anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start your own thread to plan your build. Dexter
