Welcome to PS1 & PS2 Mods & ODEs. This board is for modding classic PlayStation hardware: modchips, softmods, PicoStation and other optical drive emulators, MechaPwn, FreeMcBoot, OPL and the builds and repairs that go with them. What belongs here • Modchip installs and which chip suits which board revision. • ODE installs, firmware updates and setup. • MechaPwn and other mechacon patches. • FreeMcBoot and other softmods, and OPL setups for USB, network, hard drive and SD card. • Build logs, restorations and wiring questions. What goes elsewhere • A console that will not boot or a problem you cannot diagnose: Help & troubleshooting. • Games, collections and chat: General discussion. Starter knowledge • On the PS1, the right modchip or ODE depends on the board revision, so open it up or check the model before buying parts. • PicoStation is an open-source ODE built around a Raspberry Pi Pico that replaces the PS1's disc drive and reads from an SD card. • On the PS2, softmods are often the easiest start. Which one works depends on your model and BIOS version. • MechaPwn patches the drive controller on supported PS2 models so they can play your own burnt backups and discs from other regions. Read the compatibility notes carefully. • OPL loads your own backups. Performance and compatibility vary between storage methods. Show your build Photos, a parts list, the board revision, wiring notes and what went wrong make a mod thread genuinely useful. Credit the people whose designs, firmware and guides you used. Safety • Unplug before opening, and be careful around the power supply. • Solder in a ventilated space with eye protection. • Old boards have delicate traces. Use the right temperature and do not rush. • Back up memory card saves before installing softmods. Not allowed No links to or requests for ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files or where to find them. Dump your own BIOS and rip your own discs. No selling chips, modded consoles or paid install services here. House rules Be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules.
