Welcome to Homebrew & GB Studio. This board is for making brand-new games and software for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance, whether you're using GB Studio's visual tools or writing assembly by hand. What belongs here • GB Studio projects, questions, tips and scripting tricks. • Development with GBDK in C, RGBDS in assembly, or GBA development tools. • Homebrew releases, demos, music and art made for Game Boy hardware. • Game jams, collaborations, and feedback on your work in progress. • Putting your own game on a real cartridge. What doesn't belong here • Hardware mods go in Mods & shell swaps. • Retail games and collecting go in General discussion. • If a flashcart or a console isn't working, Help & troubleshooting is the right place. Getting started • GB Studio is a free tool for making Game Boy games with a visual, event-based editor. You can build a game without writing code, then export it to play in emulators, on the web, or on real hardware via a flashcart. • GBDK lets you write Game Boy games in C. RGBDS is the standard assembler if you want to go low level. • The Game Boy has tight limits: a small screen, few colours and limited memory. Working within them is half the fun. • Test on real hardware where you can. Some things that work in an emulator don't behave the same on a console. Sharing your project • Tell us what it is, which tools you used, and what stage it's at. • Screenshots and short clips help people get a feel for it. • Credit everyone involved: artists, musicians, and the authors of any assets, code or engine plugins you used. • Only post your own work, or work you have permission to share. • Sharing your own homebrew file directly on KZE is fine. Linking out isn't allowed, so attach it or describe where people can find it. Asking for help Include your tool and its version, what you're trying to do, what happens instead, any error messages, and a screenshot of the relevant script or code. The rules on ROMs Homebrew is your work and welcome here. Commercial ROMs, BIOS files and ROM hacks distributed as full patched ROMs are not. Fan projects should be original or clearly within the rules of the tools and assets you're using. Selling your own original game is something to talk to the team about first. House rules Everything else in the KZE rules applies: be kind, English only (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing, and no self-promotion spam. If you see something that breaks the rules, Report it. This thread is locked, so start a new thread for your project or question. Dexter
