Welcome to PS3 CFW, HFW & HEN. This board is for working out which firmware your PS3 can run and installing it safely: custom firmware (CFW), Hybrid Firmware (HFW) and HEN. What belongs here • Checking whether your console can run full custom firmware. • Installing, updating and choosing between CFW options. • Installing HFW and HEN, and setting HEN to load conveniently. • Flash dumps, verification and recovery. What goes elsewhere • webMAN MOD, multiMAN, Artemis, themes and other homebrew: Homebrew & mods. • A console that will not boot or shows errors: Help & troubleshooting. • Chat: General discussion. Starter knowledge • CFW replaces the system software and gives the most control. Only some PS3s can run it, depending on model and the minimum firmware the console shipped with. • HFW is official firmware with small changes that make HEN easier to use. HEN then enables homebrew while the console is running and is the usual route for consoles that cannot run CFW. • HEN needs enabling after each restart, though there are ways to make that quick. • Use a checking tool, run on HFW with HEN as the guides describe, to find out whether your console can take CFW. Do not guess from the model number alone. • Which firmware versions are current changes, so check the latest pinned news. Safety first 1. Back up your saves and data. 2. Dump your flash memory and verify the dump with a checker before installing CFW. Keep copies somewhere safe. 3. Never install CFW on a console that is not compatible. It can brick it. 4. Never cut the power during a firmware install. 5. Use files from the original developers, and check them as the guide says. How to ask Include your model number, current firmware (official, HFW or CFW and its name), whether HEN or CFW is installed, what you were doing and any error text. No piracy No links to or requests for game ISOs, PKGs of paid games, licence files, keys, firmware files from unofficial sources or where to find them. Only discuss hacking your own console. No online cheating, no PSN account tricks and no selling. House rules Be kind, keep it in English (other languages are translated automatically), and no spam, keyboard mashing or self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start your own thread with your question. Dexter
