Hey guys! Important networking news. BROADCOM WPS FLAW At Hexacon on 16 October, researcher Quentin Kaiser showed a flaw in Broadcom's WPS code that lets someone in Wi-Fi range run code as root on the router without the password. It's reportedly about 16 years old and affects routers from TP-Link, Netgear and others. When it was reported there was no patch, and turning WPS off may not fully protect you. PATCHES TO INSTALL • ASUS fixed a critical flaw triggered by malicious VPN config files (3.0.0.6_102 series firmware). • NETGEAR published its October security advisory for Nighthawk and RAX routers. WHAT DO YOU THINK? • Does this make the case for OpenWrt-capable routers? • Do you still leave WPS on? • What's your home network setup?
