Welcome to Custom firmware in the Anbernic forum. This is the place for Knulli, muOS, ROCKNIX, ArkOS on older models, and getting the most out of stock firmware too. What belongs here • Which firmware suits my device and the way I play? • Installation and update walkthroughs • Themes, settings, scraping artwork and organising your library • Core choices and performance tips within a firmware • Release discussion for the custom firmware projects • Stock firmware tips for people who'd rather keep it What doesn't • If something is broken after installing, ask in Help & troubleshooting with the details below • General chat and setup photos go in General discussion What custom firmware does On budget Linux handhelds, the stock software is often basic. Community firmware replaces it with a more polished interface, better-tuned emulators, features such as Wi-Fi tools, scraping and save syncing, and regular fixes. Most run from the SD card, so you can usually swap back to stock by switching cards. Each project supports particular devices, so always check its own compatibility list for your exact model before installing. Safe installation habits 1. Back up your saves and anything else you want to keep. 2. Download the firmware only from the project's official release page. Never use repacks from video descriptions or file-sharing sites. 3. Write the image to a reputable SD card with a proper imaging tool, rather than copying files by hand. 4. Follow the project's own instructions for your model, including any separate step for a second card. 5. Keep a note of what version you installed. Posting tips • Name your exact model and the firmware and version you're using. • When comparing firmware, say what you value: simplicity, features, performance or looks. There's no single best choice. • Credit the developers. These projects are mostly built by volunteers. Legal and safety Custom firmware is welcome; piracy isn't. No ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files, firmware dumps, keys or full sets, and no links to pre-loaded firmware images bundled with games. Dump your own BIOS. No malware, and no selling or paid installation services. House rules Be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start a new thread for your question or guide. Dexter
