Welcome to Android emulation. This board is for getting emulators, frontends and controllers working on Android phones, tablets and Android-based handhelds such as the Retroid, AYN and Anbernic devices. Whether you are setting up RetroArch for the first time or tuning a demanding system on a high-end handheld, this is the place.
What belongs here
• Setting up and configuring Android emulators such as RetroArch, PPSSPP, Dolphin, DuckStation, Lemuroid and similar apps
• Controllers: Bluetooth pads, phone clip-ons and telescopic controllers, button mapping and hotkeys
• Android handhelds: settings, performance, battery life and storage
• Storage permissions, folder access and getting your own game dumps onto the device
• Performance questions, comparisons between devices and setup showcases
What doesn't
• Frontends like Daijisho, ES-DE and building a tidy library: Frontends & launchers
• Emulation on Windows, Linux or macOS: PC emulation
• iPhone and iPad: iPhone & iPad emulation
• Making games look like they are on a CRT: Shaders, bezels & CRT looks
• Writing your own emulator: Emulator development
How to ask so people can help
1. Device model, chipset (Snapdragon, MediaTek, Exynos, Unisoc and so on) and Android version
2. The emulator name and version, and where you installed it from
3. For RetroArch: the core you are using
4. Any settings you have changed from the defaults
5. What you have already tried
6. The exact error message, or a screenshot of it
Starter knowledge
• An emulator recreates a console in software. RetroArch is a frontend that runs emulators packaged as cores, so the core you pick matters as much as RetroArch itself.
• Modern Android limits which folders apps can see. If an emulator cannot find your games, grant it access to the folder through its own file picker rather than moving files around blindly.
• The chipset matters more than the brand. Different GPUs and drivers behave differently, and some emulators let Snapdragon (Adreno) devices load alternative GPU drivers. Results vary, so check the emulator's own notes.
• Thermals affect performance. A phone that runs well for five minutes may throttle after twenty, so test longer sessions before blaming a setting.
• Install emulators from official sources such as the Play Store or the developer's own release page. Clones with adverts or paywalls bolted on are common, and some are malicious.
Legal and safety
KZE is happy to talk about emulators, but never piracy. Do not link, share or ask for ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files, firmware or keys, and do not ask where to find them. Dump your own games and BIOS from hardware you own. Apps that come preloaded with games, or that charge for someone else's free emulator, are not welcome here. No malware, no cracked APKs and no selling or paid services.
The usual house rules apply everywhere on KZE: be kind, post in English (anything else is translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. If you see something that breaks the rules, use Report and the team will look at it. This thread is locked, so if you have a question, start your own thread in this board.
