Welcome to Custom ROMs & root. This subforum is for taking control of your Android device: unlocking bootloaders, flashing custom ROMs such as LineageOS and GrapheneOS, rooting with Magisk or KernelSU, custom recoveries, kernels and modules. Beginners are very welcome, and so are people who have been flashing since the early days. What belongs here • Questions and guides about unlocking, flashing and rooting specific devices. • ROM recommendations and experiences on your device. • Magisk and KernelSU modules, and getting apps to behave on a rooted phone. What goes elsewhere • General phone chat and buying advice: General discussion. • Launchers and themes that need no root: Launchers & customisation. • Problems unrelated to modding: Help & troubleshooting. Before you start, know the risks • Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device on almost every phone. Back up everything first, including photos, messages and your two-factor authentication codes. • Modding can void your warranty, and on Samsung devices it trips Knox permanently, which disables some Samsung features. • Banking, payment and some streaming or game apps may refuse to run on an unlocked or rooted device. Contactless payments are often the first thing to go. • An unlocked bootloader makes the device less secure if it is lost or stolen. • Never relock the bootloader while running an unofficial or unsigned system unless the ROM's own instructions say it is supported. Doing so can leave the phone unbootable. • Mistakes can brick a device. Follow the instructions for your exact model and variant, and use files only from the official project or device maintainer. Starter knowledge • The bootloader is what starts the operating system. Unlocking it lets you boot software the manufacturer did not sign. • Root gives apps full control of the system. It is powerful and should be granted carefully. • ROMs are built per device, usually by codename. A build for a similar-sounding model can fail badly. • Keep the stock firmware for your model somewhere safe so you can go back. When you ask for help Include your exact model and variant, current ROM and build, root method, recovery, what you did step by step, and the exact error text. Rules • Only your own devices. No FRP, Google account, carrier lock or activation bypasses for devices that are not yours. • No cracked apps, no paid modules shared for free, no malware. • No paid flashing or unlocking services. The general KZE rules apply here too: be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report on anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so please open your own thread for questions. Dexter
