Welcome to General discussion
This is the relaxed corner of ESP32 & microcontrollers. Talk about new boards and chips, compare development setups, argue cheerfully about the Arduino IDE versus PlatformIO, share a handy library, or ask which board suits an idea you have not started yet.
What belongs here
• News and chat about microcontrollers and development boards
• Toolchains and editors: Arduino IDE, PlatformIO, ESP-IDF, MicroPython, CircuitPython
• Recommendations: which sensor, display or board suits a project
• Planning threads before you build
• Useful libraries, tutorials and techniques you have learned
What goes elsewhere
• Finished ESP32 builds: ESP32 projects
• Arduino and Pico specifics: Arduino & Pico
• Something is not working: Help & troubleshooting, where the template gets you faster answers
• Linux boards like the full-size Raspberry Pi: Raspberry Pi & SBCs
A few basics worth knowing
• Most modern boards, including the ESP32 and Pico, use 3.3 V logic. Classic Arduino Uno and Nano boards use 5 V. Use a level shifter between them.
• Always share a common ground between boards, sensors and separate power supplies.
• A board's onboard regulator can only supply so much. Power LED strips, motors and servos from a suitable separate supply.
• Check the pinout for your exact board. Different ESP32 variants, such as the S3 and C3, have different pins and features.
Board rules
• Recommending tools and parts is welcome. Selling them, advertising paid services or posting referral links is not.
• No malware, nothing aimed at other people's networks or devices, and nothing piracy-friendly.
• Safety warnings about mains, lithium batteries and high current are part of the rules. Leave mains wiring to qualified people.
House rules apply as everywhere else: be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report if something needs a moderator. This thread is locked, so start a new thread to join in.
