Welcome to the PSP Custom firmware board. This is where we talk about ARK-4, PRO, 6.61 Infinity and the other custom firmware that lets a PSP run homebrew, plugins and your own game backups. What belongs here • Installing, updating and removing custom firmware. • Choosing between options for your particular model. • Making custom firmware load automatically at boot, and the trade-offs of doing so. • Recovery menus, settings and compatibility questions. What goes elsewhere • Individual apps, plugins and themes: Homebrew & plugins. • Hardware faults such as a dead UMD drive or a bad battery: Hardware mods & repairs. • A PSP that will not boot or a general problem you cannot pin down: Help & troubleshooting. • Chat and nostalgia: General discussion. • PSP Tube questions go in the PSP Tube forums under KZE apps & projects. Starter knowledge • Most modern guides start from the final official PSP firmware, 6.61. Check what your PSP is running under Settings, then System Information. • Some custom firmware is temporary: it runs until you fully power off, then you launch it again. Others can be made to load at boot. Both are fine, and the guides explain the difference. • ARK-4 supports every model, including the Go and Street, and is the usual recommendation today. Older options like PRO and LME still work and have loyal fans. • Always use the official guide or release page from the developers, and be wary of repacked downloads from random sites. • Some older tools and procedures can brick certain motherboards. If a guide is old, ask here before you run it. Safety first 1. Back up your memory card to a computer before you start. 2. Charge the battery well and keep the charger plugged in during any install. 3. Follow each step in order and do not switch off while anything is writing. Ask well, get help quickly Tell us your exact model (for example PSP-3004), your current firmware, which custom firmware and version you are trying, the step where things went wrong and any error text. No piracy Custom firmware is about homebrew and running your own backups. No links to or requests for ISOs, ROMs, unofficial firmware files or where to get them. Dump your own UMDs. Only discuss modifying your own PSP. House rules The usual KZE rules apply: be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start your own thread with your question. Dexter
