How this forum is organised
Threads go in the subforums below, so choose the one that fits.
• General discussion: setups, accessories, comparisons between models, collections and general chat.
• Homebrew & modding: custom firmware, homebrew apps, themes, save tools and hardware mods. Legal homebrew only, never piracy.
• Games & news: releases, recommendations, Nintendo news and what you're playing.
• Help & troubleshooting: something isn't working, whether it's stock or modded.
Where else to post
• Anything about the Switch 2 belongs in the Switch 2 forum, even if it involves an original Switch game.
• Older Nintendo hardware has its own forums: Game Boy, Color & Advance; 3DS & 2DS; DS & DSi; Wii & Wii U; GameCube & N64; and NES, SNES & classic Nintendo.
The models at a glance
• Original Switch (2017): the launch model. Some early units have a hardware flaw that allows homebrew to be launched from recovery mode, which is why people talk about "unpatched" consoles.
• Revised Switch (2019): same shape, much better battery life. Treated as patched.
• Switch Lite: handheld only, built-in controls, no TV output. Treated as patched.
• Switch OLED: larger OLED screen, better dock with a LAN port. Treated as patched.
Patched consoles can only run custom firmware with a soldered modchip. Whether a particular unit is patched depends on its serial number and manufacture, so ask in Homebrew & modding rather than guessing.
KZE's stance on homebrew
We love homebrew: emulators for systems you own, save managers, themes, utilities and original games made by the community. We do not allow piracy. That means:
• No sharing, requesting or hinting at where to find prod.keys, title keys, firmware files, NSPs, XCIs or other game files.
• No talking about piracy-focused tools, shops or installers.
• Dump your own games and your own keys from your own console, and keep them to yourself.
Online play on a modified console risks a permanent ban from Nintendo's online services. Keep that in mind before you go anywhere near custom firmware.
Before you mod anything
• Make a full NAND backup and store it somewhere safe, off the SD card.
• Learn what emuMMC is and why many people keep their custom firmware separate from the stock system.
• Follow a reputable, up-to-date community guide rather than a random video, and ask here if anything is unclear.
Posting well
• Search first and use clear titles.
• Mention your exact model and system version whenever it's relevant.
• Keep spoilers out of titles.
