Welcome to 3DS Custom firmware & homebrew. This board is about getting the most out of your 3DS with legal homebrew: Luma3DS, homebrew apps and games, save managers, cheats for single-player games, and tools that keep an old handheld genuinely useful.
What belongs here
• Installing and updating custom firmware, usually Luma3DS.
• Homebrew apps and games, and your own homebrew projects.
• Save backup and restore with tools like Checkpoint.
• Managing homebrew with Universal-Updater, and file management with GodMode9.
• Community online services and other ways people keep the 3DS alive.
• Emulators and ports used with your own dumped games.
What doesn't belong here
• Themes, badges and splash screens go in Themes & customisation.
• If your console won't boot or something has gone wrong, Help & troubleshooting is often quicker.
• General chat and game recommendations go in General discussion.
The piracy rules
• No ROMs, CIAs, 3DS files, DS ROMs or other game files, and no asking where to find them.
• No sharing seeds, title keys or console-unique files.
• No piracy-focused tools, shops or installers, and no help using them.
• Dump your own cartridges and digital titles from your own console, and keep them to yourself.
Starter knowledge
• Custom firmware on 3DS is usually installed using the community 3DS hacking guide. The method depends on your model and system version, and it changes over time. Follow the current guide, not an old video.
• The guide has you back up your NAND and essential files. Do it, and keep copies off the SD card in more than one place. They're your safety net.
• Luma3DS runs at boot and lets you hold Select while powering on to reach its settings. It also has a Rosalina menu, opened with a button combination, for screenshots, cheats and more.
• Use a good-quality SD card formatted to FAT32. Many problems are bad or fake cards.
• Keep your homebrew tools up to date, and check the latest pinned news before installing a system update.
Safe habits
• Never run files sent to you by strangers.
• Don't delete anything from the SD card or NAND unless you know what it is.
• Avoid "all in one" packs that bundle piracy tools. If a guide asks you to install a shop, it's not one we support.
Online play
Online play with a modified console carries risk, especially where cheating is involved. Don't use cheats in online games.
Sharing your work
If you've made homebrew, tell us what it does, which systems it runs on, and credit any libraries or code you used. Sharing your own files directly on KZE is fine; linking out isn't allowed.
House rules
Everything else in the KZE rules applies: be kind, English only (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so please start your own thread for questions.
