Welcome to Homelab & self-hosting. This forum is for running your own services at home: servers, NAS boxes, mini PCs, Raspberry Pis and old laptops doing useful jobs. Jellyfin and Plex, Nextcloud, Home Assistant, Pi-hole, Docker and Docker Compose, Proxmox, TrueNAS, Unraid, reverse proxies, VPNs and home networking all belong here. What belongs here • Planning a homelab and choosing hardware. • Setting up and troubleshooting self-hosted apps. • Containers, virtual machines and storage. • Networking, DNS, VLANs and remote access. • Backups, monitoring and power usage. • Showing off your rack, shelf or cupboard. What goes elsewhere • Desktop Linux questions: Linux. • Choosing parts for a gaming or desktop build: PC building & upgrades. • Writing your own apps: Programming & app development. • Media players on TVs and streaming boxes: Android TV & streaming boxes. Never post secrets This is the most important rule here. Before posting any config file, compose file, log or screenshot, remove: • Passwords, API keys, tokens and private keys. • Your public IP address, domain names you would rather keep private, and port forwarding details. • Email addresses, usernames and anything that identifies you. Replace them with placeholders such as YOUR_PASSWORD. If you accidentally post a real secret, change it straight away, then edit your post or Report it so a moderator can help. Starter knowledge • Follow the 3-2-1 rule for backups: three copies of your data, on two different types of storage, with one copy off-site. RAID protects against a failed drive, not against deletion, ransomware or fire, so it is not a backup. • Test restoring from your backups. A backup you have never restored is a guess. • Avoid exposing services directly to the internet. A VPN such as WireGuard or a mesh VPN is a safer way to reach things from outside. • Keep your host, containers and apps updated, and change default passwords. • A small UPS can save you from corrupted data during a power cut. • Start small. One machine and a couple of services teaches you a lot. Legal rules • Jellyfin, Plex and similar are great for your own media. We do not allow piracy: no torrent trackers or indexers, no automating downloads of pirated content, no pirate IPTV, and no asking where to find any of it. • No hosting malware, phishing pages or anything aimed at other people's systems. • No selling hosting, hardware or paid setup services. When you ask for help Include the hardware, host OS and version, how the app is installed (for example Docker Compose), the relevant redacted config, what you tried and the exact error or log lines. House rules The general KZE rules apply: be kind, English only (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report on anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start your own thread to share your setup or ask a question. Dexter
