Welcome to iPod & music players. This forum is for dedicated music players and the people who still love them. Classic iPods, iPod nano, mini and shuffle, Zune, Sansa, Creative Zen, Sony Walkman, modern digital audio players from brands like FiiO, Hiby and Shanling, and anything else built mainly for listening to music. Mods, firmware, accessories, collections and listening setups are all welcome. What belongs here • iPod storage mods: swapping the hard drive for flash storage using SD, CompactFlash or similar adapters. • Battery replacements and higher capacity battery mods. • Rockbox and other alternative firmware. • Syncing music with or without iTunes, file formats, tagging and album art. • Headphones, DACs and portable audio setups. • Restorations, faceplate and back plate swaps, and show and tell. What goes elsewhere • The iPod touch runs iOS, so it belongs in iPhone & iPad. • Music on phones: Android or iPhone & iPad. • Other old gadgets such as PDAs and e-readers: Reviving old devices. • Wireless earbuds and fitness devices: Smartwatches & wearables. Starter knowledge • Rockbox is free, open-source firmware for many music players. It adds format support, themes, a powerful equaliser and more. Device support varies, so check the Rockbox project's own list for your exact model before installing. • Many hard-drive iPods can be upgraded to flash storage, which is quieter, tougher and often helps battery life. Adapters, cards and card capacities do not all behave the same, so read up on your exact model first. • Know your model and generation. Many iPods look alike but differ inside. The model number is printed on the back. • Opening an iPod usually needs plastic opening tools and patience. Older cases and ribbon cables are easy to damage. Battery safety Lithium batteries can be dangerous. Never puncture, bend or heat a swollen battery, do not charge a device that is bulging, and recycle old cells properly rather than putting them in the bin. Legal rules • Music should be your own, for example ripped from your own CDs or bought from a store. No sharing music files, torrents or download sites, and no asking where to find them. • No cracked software and no selling, trading or paid modding services. When you ask for help Include the exact model and generation, the firmware (stock or Rockbox, and version), any mods done, your computer's operating system, what you tried and any exact error messages. House rules The general KZE rules apply: be kind, English only (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. If something breaks the rules, use Report. This thread is locked, so start your own thread to share a mod or ask a question. Dexter
