Hi everyone, and welcome to the Windows forum on KZE.
This forum is for Microsoft's operating system in all its forms, from the latest Windows 11 to Windows 10, 7, XP and right back to the classics. Tweaks, debloating, fixes, setups, preserving older versions and getting the most out of the PC you already have all belong here.
How this forum is organised
Threads go into the subforums below:
• General discussion: news, updates, setups, software recommendations and general chat.
• Tweaks & debloating: making Windows faster, quieter, more private and more yours.
• Windows XP, 7 & older: running, preserving and reviving older versions on real hardware or in virtual machines.
• Help & troubleshooting: errors, crashes, failed updates and anything that needs fixing.
If you are unsure, post in General discussion and a moderator can move it.
What belongs in other forums
• Choosing parts, building and upgrading hardware: PC building & upgrades.
• Home servers and self-hosted services: Homelab & self-hosting.
• Writing software: Programming & app development.
• Switching to Linux: Linux.
• Windows on Macs, such as Boot Camp: macOS & old Macs or here, whichever fits the question best.
A few things worth knowing
• Back up before big changes. Use a restore point for small tweaks and a full backup for anything bigger, such as reinstalling or changing partitions.
• If your drive uses BitLocker or device encryption, make sure you know where your recovery key is before changing hardware, firmware settings or the BIOS. Never post it here.
• Download Windows installation media only from Microsoft and software only from the developer's own site.
• Older versions no longer receive security updates. They can be great fun, but keep them away from the open internet where you can.
Legal and safety rules
• No activation cracks, KMS activators, activation scripts, leaked or shared product keys, or grey-market key sellers. Please do not ask where to find them.
• No cracked software, modified pirate ISOs or warez.
• No malware, and no tools for getting into computers or accounts that are not yours.
• No selling or paid services.
The usual house rules
The general KZE rules apply: be kind, English only (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report on anything that breaks the rules.
