Starter knowledge
• The Portal streams games from your own console. The console does the work, so your home network matters more than anything else.
• A wired connection from your console to the router makes a big difference. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi for the Portal, and keep it reasonably close to the router.
• Playing away from home depends on your home upload speed and the network you are on. Public Wi-Fi with login pages can be awkward.
• Your console needs Remote Play enabled and the right rest mode settings to wake it remotely.
• The Portal uses Sony's PlayStation Link for some wireless audio products, and does not support regular Bluetooth headphones.
• Sony adds features through updates, and cloud streaming options depend on your subscription and region. Check the latest news.
How to ask for help
Include your console model, how it connects to the router (wired or Wi-Fi), your router type if known, where you are playing from, what the problem looks like (lag, dropouts, error codes) and what you have tried.
Hacking and mods
Discussion of tinkering with your own Portal is fine, but no piracy, no links to or requests for firmware files or keys, and no sharing of accounts or console access.
Safety and privacy
Never share your PSN details, IP address, or anything that would let someone access your console. Be careful with apps that ask for your account password.
