Welcome to Old iPads & iPhones. This subforum is for the devices that Apple has moved on from but we have not: original iPads, iPhone 4s and 5 era phones, older iPod touches and anything else stuck on a legacy version of iOS. Bringing them back to life, finding apps that still work, downgrades, and turning them into something useful all belong here. What belongs here • Getting older devices working again and setting them up today. • Legacy iOS versions, downgrades and saved SHSH blobs. • Older App Store apps that still install, and re-downloading apps you previously owned. • Project ideas: kitchen recipe screen, digital photo frame, music player, e-reader, smart home panel, kids' offline game device. What goes elsewhere • Jailbreak tools in general: Jailbreaking. • Current devices: General discussion. • Classic iPods (non-touch): iPod & music players. Starter knowledge • Downgrades depend on the device, the version and whether Apple still signs it. Some older devices can return to certain versions, many cannot. Check carefully before you start. • Once you have downloaded an app on your Apple Account, the App Store may offer the last compatible version on an older device. That only works for apps on your own account. • Many old apps and services no longer work because their servers have shut down. That is a limitation, not something you did wrong. • Old batteries degrade and can swell. If the screen is lifting or the case is bulging, stop charging it and get the battery replaced or recycled safely. Safety online Old iOS versions no longer receive security updates, and older web browsers struggle with modern sites. Avoid using legacy devices for banking, email with important accounts or sensitive logins. Keeping them for offline tasks or a few trusted apps is the safer choice. Rules • No pirated or cracked IPAs, including 'abandoned' apps that are still under copyright, and no asking where to find them. • No Activation Lock or passcode bypasses for devices that are not yours. A locked second-hand iPad is a common problem, but we can only suggest contacting the original owner or Apple with proof of purchase. • No selling or trading. The general KZE rules apply: be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report on anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start your own thread to share your project. Dexter
