Welcome to DS & DSi Homebrew & mods. This board covers the software and hardware side: TWiLight Menu++, Unlaunch, flashcarts, homebrew apps and games, screen upgrades, shell swaps and battery replacements.
What belongs here
• TWiLight Menu++ setup, themes and settings.
• Unlaunch and other DSi homebrew methods.
• Flashcarts: which ones are reliable and how to set them up for homebrew.
• Homebrew apps and games, and your own projects.
• Hardware mods: shell swaps, screen replacements, hinge repairs, battery upgrades.
• Build logs and finished projects.
What doesn't belong here
• If something has gone wrong and you need diagnosis, Help & troubleshooting may be faster.
• Game and collecting chat goes in General discussion.
The piracy rules
• No ROMs, game files, BIOS or firmware files, or where to find them.
• No flashcart "packs" that come bundled with game files.
• Use homebrew and your own dumped games only.
Starter knowledge
• TWiLight Menu++ is a modern menu that can run homebrew and your own game backups through nds-bootstrap. It works on DSi, 3DS and on DS and DS Lite with a flashcart.
• Unlaunch is installed to the DSi's internal memory and runs before the system menu. Installing or uninstalling it carries a risk of bricking the console if it goes wrong.
• Always make a full NAND backup of a DSi before changing anything, and store it safely off the SD card in more than one place.
• Flashcart quality varies enormously. Clones sometimes come with firmware that stops working after a certain date. Ask before buying.
• Follow a current community guide. Old video tutorials often use outdated or risky steps.
Hardware mods and safety
• DS Lite hinge and shell replacements are common and achievable, but the ribbon cables through the hinge are fragile.
• Disconnect the battery before working inside.
• Swollen lithium batteries should be removed and disposed of safely, never charged.
• Use the right screwdrivers. Many DS models use tri-wing screws.
