Welcome to the DS & DSi forum. This is KZE's home for the original DS, the DS Lite, the DSi and the DSi XL: games, flashcarts, homebrew like TWiLight Menu++ and Unlaunch, and the repairs that keep these consoles going. How this forum is organised • General discussion: games, collecting, memories and which model to buy. • Homebrew & mods: TWiLight Menu++, Unlaunch, flashcarts, screen upgrades and shell swaps. • Help & troubleshooting: anything that isn't working, from a dead hinge to a flashcart that won't boot. Where else to post • DS games played on a 3DS or 2DS are fine here, but 3DS hardware and custom firmware go in 3DS & 2DS. • GBA hardware goes in Game Boy, Color & Advance, though playing GBA games on a DS Lite is fine here. • Older Nintendo hardware has its own forums, such as NES, SNES & classic Nintendo. The family at a glance • Original DS: the chunky first model. Has a GBA slot. • DS Lite: slimmer and brighter, also with a GBA slot, which makes it popular for GBA games too. The hinge is a well-known weak point. • DSi: cameras, an SD card slot and the DSiWare shop, but no GBA slot. Has more memory and a faster processor than the earlier models. • DSi XL: larger screens and a bigger body, same internals as the DSi. Homebrew in a nutshell • Flashcarts let the DS and DS Lite run homebrew. Many cheap ones are clones of varying quality, so ask before buying. • On the DSi, Unlaunch is a popular way to run homebrew from boot, and TWiLight Menu++ is a modern menu that replaces the stock one and runs homebrew from the SD card. • Installing anything to a DSi's internal memory carries a risk of bricking it. Always make a NAND backup first, keep it safe, and follow a current guide. Online Nintendo's official Wi-Fi Connection service for DS ended long ago. Community-run replacements exist; ask in the forum for the current state. Note that original DS games only support older Wi-Fi security, which most modern routers won't offer, so plan accordingly. The legal bit KZE is homebrew-friendly, never piracy-friendly. No ROMs, game files, BIOS or firmware files, and no asking where to find them. Use flashcarts and TWiLight Menu++ with homebrew and your own dumped games. House rules All the usual KZE rules apply: be kind, write in English (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing, and no self-promotion spam. Report anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so pick the right subforum and start a thread of your own. Dexter
