Welcome to General discussion The chatty side of Raspberry Pi & SBCs. Talk about new boards, operating systems, cases, HATs, cooling and storage, and tackle the eternal question of what to do with the three Pis sitting in your drawer. What belongs here • News and opinions on the Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, Radxa and other boards • Operating systems: Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu, DietPi, Armbian, LibreELEC and others • Accessories: HATs, cases, displays, cooling and NVMe adapters • Planning a project and asking which board to use • Tips, tricks and handy commands What goes elsewhere • Finished projects: Projects & builds • Something is broken: Help & troubleshooting, where the template gets you quicker answers • Microcontrollers, including the Pico: ESP32 & microcontrollers • Pi-based portables: Cyberdecks or DIY handhelds & portables Good habits worth sharing • Use a power supply rated for your board. Undervoltage causes all sorts of odd behaviour. • Shut down cleanly rather than pulling the plug. • Back up your SD card or SSD once things work. • Keep the system updated and change default passwords. • Remember GPIO is 3.3 V only, and share a common ground with anything you connect. • Give the board some airflow if it lives in a case. Board rules • Recommendations are welcome. Selling, paid services and referral spam are not. • Emulation chat is fine, but no ROMs, BIOS files or anything else piracy-friendly. • No malware. • Safety warnings about batteries and mains are part of the rules here. Leave mains wiring to qualified people. As always, the house rules apply: be kind, English only (other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam.
