Welcome to NES, SNES & classic Nintendo. This forum covers where it all began: the NES and Famicom, the SNES and Super Famicom, the Virtual Boy, the original Game & Watch handhelds and their modern reissues, and the NES and SNES Classic Mini consoles. Games, collecting, repairs and mods all belong here.
What belongs here
• Games, recommendations and memories from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras.

• Repairs: NES connector problems, SNES power and picture issues, Virtual Boy displays, Game & Watch screens.
• Mods: RGB and video mods, region mods, flashcarts used with homebrew and your own dumps.
• The NES and SNES Classic Mini consoles and the Game & Watch reissues.
• Homebrew games for these systems, including new releases from today's developers.

How to ask for help
Please include the exact console and region, what's wrong, what you've tried, and clear photos of the board or screen where relevant.
Starter knowledge
• NES front-loader: the classic blinking light is usually the cartridge connector or dirty game contacts. Clean the cart first. Replacement connectors are a common fix.
• The NES lockout chip causes some blinking problems too. Some people disable it, but it's a modification, so read up first.
• SNES and Super Famicom carts are physically different shapes in some regions. Adapters exist, and some people trim the cartridge slot tabs, which is permanent.
• Virtual Boy display problems are very common with age, usually due to the display ribbon cable. Repairs are possible but fiddly.
• The NES and SNES Classic Minis have a homebrew scene for customising the menu and adding your own dumped games.
• Clean cartridge contacts with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud. Avoid abrasives on gold contacts.
The legal bit
KZE is homebrew-friendly, never piracy-friendly. No ROMs, BIOS files or where to find them, and no requests. Flashcarts are welcome for homebrew and your own dumped games. If you want to back up your own cartridges, a proper cart reader is the way to do it.
Collecting and selling
• Reproduction carts and boxes are common. Be clear when something is a repro, and ask if you're unsure.
• No buying, selling or trading on this board.
• Crop personal details out of photos.
Safety
• Unplug consoles before opening them.
• Old power supplies can be unreliable. Check the voltage and polarity before using a replacement.
• Capacitors and old electronics can fail. If something smells of burning, switch it off.
House rules
The usual KZE rules apply here: be kind, write in English (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing and no self-promotion spam. Use Report on anything that breaks the rules. This thread is locked, so start your own thread to join in.
Thanks for keeping the classics alive,
Dexter
