Welcome to PS4 Upgrades & repairs. This board is for making your PS4 faster, quieter and longer-lived: SSD swaps, cleaning, thermal paste, fans, power supplies, disc drives and general repairs.
What belongs here
• Internal drive upgrades and external storage.
• Cleaning dust, replacing thermal paste and quietening a noisy console.
• Fan, power supply, disc drive and port repairs.
• Controller repairs such as stick drift and worn buttons.
• Repair logs and teardowns.
What goes elsewhere
• Jailbreak and homebrew: Jailbreak & homebrew.
• A fault you cannot diagnose and want help with: Help & troubleshooting is fine, and you can come here once you know what to fix.
• General chat: General discussion.
Starter knowledge
• The PS4 takes a 2.5-inch internal drive. An SSD usually helps load times, especially on the Pro.
• Back up your data before swapping drives. You will need to reinstall the system software on the new drive, using the official full installation file from Sony.
• PS4 games can also run from a USB 3.0 drive set up as extended storage.
• A loud PS4 is usually dusty and running hot. Cleaning the fan and heatsink and replacing dried thermal paste often helps a lot.
• Opening the console will usually void any warranty, though most PS4s are well past it.
Safety
• Unplug the console and wait before opening it. The power supply can hold a charge, so leave it alone unless you know what you are doing.
• Use an anti-static strap or touch earthed metal, and keep screws organised.
• Be gentle with ribbon cables and the fan connector.
• Do not use a vacuum cleaner on the fan. Hold it still while cleaning with compressed air.
