Welcome to the 3DS & 2DS forum. This is KZE's home for Nintendo's dual-screen handheld family, which still has one of the friendliest homebrew scenes around. Games, custom firmware, themes, upgrades and repairs all belong here. How this forum is organised • General discussion: games, collecting, which model to buy, and general chat. • Custom firmware & homebrew: Luma3DS, homebrew apps, save managers and keeping your 3DS useful. • Themes & customisation: home menu themes, badges, splash screens and making your 3DS your own. • Help & troubleshooting: anything that isn't working, stock or modified. Where else to post • DS games played on a 3DS are fine here; DS and DSi hardware and homebrew go in DS & DSi. • Game Boy and GBA hardware goes in Game Boy, Color & Advance. • Switch topics go in the Switch or Switch 2 forums. The family at a glance • Original 3DS and 3DS XL: glasses-free 3D, the first generation. • 2DS: wedge-shaped, no 3D, very sturdy. Good for younger players. • New 3DS and New 3DS XL: faster processor, more memory, a C-stick, ZL and ZR buttons, built-in amiibo support and better 3D tracking. A few games only run on the New models. • New 2DS XL: New hardware in a lighter clamshell without 3D. If you're choosing one for homebrew, the New models are generally the most capable. Homebrew in a nutshell Most 3DS consoles can run custom firmware, usually Luma3DS, installed using a community guide. It opens the door to homebrew apps, save backups, themes and more. The method changes depending on your system version, so always follow the current community guide and ask in Custom firmware & homebrew if you're unsure. Before you mod • Back up your SD card and, once you have access, your NAND and essential files. Keep them somewhere safe. • Only use the up-to-date community guide. Old videos often contain outdated or risky steps. • Never install random files you've been sent. Online services Nintendo has ended its official online services for the 3DS, and the eShop no longer sells games. Community projects aim to bring some online features back; ask in the forums for the current state of play. The legal bit KZE is homebrew-friendly, never piracy-friendly. No ROMs, CIAs, game files, keys or seeds, no piracy-focused tools, and no asking where to find any of them. Dump your own cartridges and digital games from your own console. House rules The KZE house rules apply here: be kind, write in English (posts in other languages are translated automatically), no spam, no keyboard mashing, and no self-promotion spam. If you see anything that breaks them, use Report. This thread is locked, so start your own thread in the subforum that fits. Dexter
